Mahabalipuram: Mahabalipuram is one of history intriguing enigmas. The ancient Mamallapuram, as Mahabalipuram was formerly known, was flourishing port town of the Pallava rulers of south India who chiseled in stone a fabulous open-air museum of sculpture under the vault of a burning sky. Apart from this, nothing is known of the place. What was the purpose behind this whole exercise, and, more important, why all the royal patronage this place enjoyed suddenly disappeared, no one actually has any answer. Staying at Mahabalipuram Resorts is an unique way of experiencing its history. Experts say that there were seven pagodas or temples on the shores of Mahabalipuram. All but one were pillaged by the rapacious sea, though there is little underwater evidence to substantiate their existence. Most of the temples and rock carvings of this place were built during the reigns of Narsinha Varman I (AD 630-668) and Narsinha Varman II (AD 700-728). Though the initial kings of Pallava dynasty were followers of Jainism, the conversion of Mahendra Varman (AD 600-630) to Shaivism led most of the monuments to be related with Shiva or Vishnu.
on arrival check-in to your hotel. Tourist attractions and World Heritage sites to visit in Mahabalipuram are: Shore Temple, Pancha Pandava Rathas, Arjuna Penance, Caves and Mandapams. After lunch go on an excursion to Kanchipuram (also known as the Silk City). Tourist places to see in Kanchipuram are: Ekambareshvara Temple, Kailasanatha Temple and Kamakshi Amman Temple. Pondicherry: The colonial past of Puducherry is hard to miss even by the casual walker on the promenade beach. There stands the statue of Francois Dupleix. Not too far away is one of Joan of Arc. It is a trip down France as one crosses symmetrically aligned streets in Puducherry. The Portuguese have been here, so have the Dutch, the Danes and the English. By the 18th century, this tiny fishing village had turned into a grand port city. The French first set foot here in 1670 and left a part of them when their undisturbed rule finished in 1954. Not much has changed since. The history has become punctuated. The air is filled with nostalgia and the present is living up to a heritage that speaks so much. A trip to Puducherry is like a journey in time with a vibrant present celebrating its interesting past; its history goes back to before Roman times, but factually started with the arrival of the French in 1673, who founded the town and built it to its present form, during the two and a half century they occupied it. Puducherry is the French interpretation of the original name Puducheri meaning new settlement. Many pilgrims have shared the town hospitality on their way to the temple town of Rameshwaram, thus enriching its culture.

Thanjavur one of the 32 Districts of Tamilnadu, is popularly known as the Delta area and the Rice Bowl of Tamilnadu. It is believed that Thanjavur derived its name from Mythical Demon Tanjan. Thanjavur is 350 Kms from the State Capital Chennai. This district is a treasure house of Religion, Art and Architecture. There is any clear information about the history of the earlier Thanjavur. As per the earliest sources of information , the Medivial Cholas ruled and developed their empire between the 9th and 14th centuries, with Thanjavur as their Capital. Raja Raja Cholan was the prominent ruler amongst the Chola emperors . Thereafter, Pandiyas, Nayaks of Madurai, Thanjavur and the Marattahs have ruled this region. The cultural, Architectural and the scholarly pursuits of these rulers are reflected in the form of great monuments like Grand Anaicut, Big Temple and Serfoji Mahal Library [now called as Saraswathy Mahal Library] and so on. Many Temples of Thanjavur termed as Great Living Chola Temples , have been classified as the World Heritage Monuments by the UNESCO.
Tanjore or Thanjavur as it is now called, is an ancient Chola dynasty town renowned for the Brahadeeswara temple, now a World Heritage monument. On your arrival in Thanjavur check in to the hotel of your choice. Overnight in Thanjavur.

Rameswaram is known for one of India most venerated and most visited Shiva shrines, dedicated to Sri Ramanathaswamy.
